It’s important to note with modern caravan braking systems; the braking hardware doesn’t last forever. This is because they are very effective unlike older over-ride braking systems.

The electro magnets which engage the brakes are a wearing part, the brake linings are a wearing part, and this also includes the bearings and drums.

In our experience, an electro magnet can last up to 50,000km if everything is adjusted/serviced at the correct intervals and the brake controller and driver are in tune.

Missing a scheduled service, or pushing it past the recommended 10,000km interval can cause problems further down the track with brakes having to extend their travel to activate. This in turn wears magnets faster due to them banging/clunking with the extra slack, brake linings wear un evenly top to bottom and grease breaks down and gets thin. We then have a situation where brake linings and magnets are covered in grease and this is less than ideal!
